Sikh leader Baba Baghel Singh

It was the year 1783 when Sikh leader Baba Baghel Singh conquered Delhi back from the Mughal king Shah Alam. On 11th March 1783, the Sikh army marched bravely to Delhi on horses and elephants and unfurled a Nishan Sahib at Red Fort. Thousands of Sikhs celebrate the day as Fateh Diwas, while the date as per the Gregorian calendar differs every year.

Born in the 1730s in village Jhabal Kalan, Amritsar, into a Dhillon Jatt family, his forefathers had converted to Sikhism during the time of Guru Arjan Sahib in the 1580s. Baghel Singh first invaded Delhi on January 8, 1774, and captured the area up to Shahdara. The second invasion was on July 17, 1775, when the Sikhs captured the area around the present-day Pahar Ganj and Jai Singhpura. Majority of the fighting took place where present-day New Delhi is located. Shortage of supplies forced Sikhs to temporarily halt their conquering spree, but Red Fort was the final aim. On 11th March 1783, the Sikhs entered the Red Fort in Delhi and occupied the Diwan-E-Aam of Mughal emperor Shah Alam II.
Emperor Shah Alam II reconciled with the Sikhs and offered treaty and accepted their terms, including construction of Gurudwaras on Sikh historical sites. Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, where Guru Tegh Bahadur had been executed on the orders of Mughal king Aurangzeb and Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, where the Guru’s remains were cremated were established by him. He has also been credited with the establishment of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Gurudwara Bala Sahib, Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tilla, Gurudwara Moti Bagh, Gurudwara Mata Sundri and Gurudwara Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.

Not many know but even today Delhi stands witness to the brave act of Baba Baghel Singh. The place where Baba Baghel Singh stopped with his troop of 30,000 men in Delhi, is now known as Tees Hazaari. When the Mughal emperor got to know that the Sikhs are planning to attack Delhi, he ordered all the gates of the Red Fort be closed, especially the ones with access to the rations so that the Sikhs run out of food and go back. Some of the Sikhs, though, accidentally came across a mason who informed them about a part of the wall of the fort which had caved in, but the exterior was intact. The Sikhs reached the spot with the help of the mason and rammed logs of wood through the wall and entered. This place is now known as Mori Gate, where the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) now stands. After winning the Red Fort, the Sikhs distributed sweets. The place is now known as Mithai Pul.

This year, Delhi Fateh Diwas is being celebrated on 21st March.

When we talk about Indian history, especially pre-British era, why do we leave out the glorious history of the Sikhs? Their courage to stand up against forceful religious conversions to Islam? The brutal treatment of the Sikhs on hands of the barbaric Mughals? Why is Mughal history whitewashed and taught in school syllabus across the country and Sikh history pushed away in the background? Let us pledge to read and talk a bit more about our heroes, lest it is forgotten.

7. Funding for parks and public gardens provides an opportunity for people to engage in physical activities, which is considerably beneficial to health.

8. Nowadays, due to the sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating diet, overweight and obesity are epidemic problems across the world, and related conditions are on the rise.

एक भयानक सपना

आज और अभी मुझे सपना आया कि मेरा वर्चस्व, जो पिछले 35 सालों से कायम था, को मेरे ख़ुद के समधी ने ढाह दिया है, ढहाया नहीं, ढहाने के पूरे प्रबन्ध कर लिए हैं।

यह सपना मैं इसीलिये लिखित में कर रहा हूँ कि कोई कहे न कि मुझे इस बात का अनुमान था तो हमें सावधान क्यों नहीं किया।

इसी सपने के दौरान मुझे इस बात की सबसे बडीं हैरानगी हुई कि ये सब पूरे सुनियोजित ढंग व मेरी बेटी बनी बहू की निगरानी व मदद से हुआ। कि किस तरह से उसने अपने पापा को मुझसे अपनी पिछली गलतियों की माफी मंगवाई, फिर भरत मिलन हुआ, पागल होने का नाटक किया,सबूत इकठ्ठे करके दिये,  मुझसे कबूल करवाया, बन्द करवाने की धमकी दी, पैसे की डिमांड रखी और मेरा घर बर्बाद कर दिया।

सपने के आने के बाद लगभग एक घण्टे में लिखे इस लेख में जो बात समझ नहीं आई , वो यह कि मेरे या मेरे परिवार के लोगों के इस अंजाम से उस बेचारी निक्की (मेरी बहु) को क्या मिला, जिसे मैंने एक बेटी और लगभग 13 साल से अपनी भावी बहू बनाने की सोच रखी थी और सब सगे संबधियों को, उनके न कहे जाने के बावजूद मनाया, धूम-धाम से शादी की। जबकि उधर से समधी के व्यहवार, आर्थिक समस्या, उसकी आदतों की पूरी जानकारी थी। और यह भी पता था कि मेरी भावी बहु मेरे बेटे से थोड़ा अधिक पढ़ी-लिखी है।

पर यह सोच कर कि बहु पढ़ी-लिखी होगी तो आने वाला उनका भविष्य, बच्चे कुशल व कामयाब कहलायेंगे।

और इधर मेरा बेटा, जयदीप सिंह, मेरा भगवान साक्षी है या हम, उसको किसी प्रकार का कुसंगत, नशे, जैसा कोई ऐब नहीं है, स्वभाव, कुशलता, शराफत, जैसी गवाही तो हमारे पड़ोसी तक दे सकते हैं, मेरे कुछ कहने की जरूरत नहीं हैं। जिस पर मुझे फख्र हैं।

पिछले दिनों हमारे यहां पुलिस आई तो, जैसे मेरी बीवी को जैसे गश आ गया, वो पूरी तरह से टूट गई है। जिसका रिकॉर्ड है कि वो कभी किसी भी समस्या से घबराई नहीं। रही बात पुलिस की बात । वो उससे घबराने व वाली  औरत नहीं है। वो तो  अपनी बहू के स्वभाव, उसके इनएक्टिव रवैये, आलसी पन, किसी प्रकार के कोई काम न कर पाने की दिलचस्पी को देख कर भी नहीं घबराई, बल्कि वो तो अपनी बेटी जैसी बहु को हमारे जैसे बनाने व ढालने में पूरी तरह से तैयारी में थी। पर वो तो अपने बेटे, बहु, पोते के आने वाले भविष्य को देख, घबराई कि समधी परिवार क्यों अपनी बेटी को शह देकर, बिगाड़ कर, उल्टी सीधी पट्टी पढ़ा, उसके भविष्य के साथ खिलवाड़ कर रहा है? भला हमारे घर क्या कमी है? उसे ऐसा कर क्या मिलेगा?

मेरी बहु के न कोई देवर है न नन्द, न भुआ, सबसे अलग रह रहा हमारा छोटा परिवार का हमारे रिश्तेदारों से न कोई प्रोपर्टी का झगड़ा, अपना मकान, गाड़ी, यहां तक की राशन का स्टोर भी हर समय भरा रहता है और सबसे बड़ी बात उसका अपना छोटा बेटा, जिसे हुए अभी तीन महीने हुए है।  उसके होने से पहले या बाद में कोई कमी पेशी, खर्चे में रुकावट रखी हो, तो वो बताये। फिर वो क्यों समझ नहीं पा रही है कि यही परिवार ही उसका सभी कुछ है। हमने न कभी उसे किसी काम को जबरदस्ती करवाना चाहा, न उसके मायके परिवार से कोई सम्मान, सामान की डिमांड रखी, न कभी नौकरी करने को कहा। फिर मझे अब भी अंदाजा यही लग रहा है कि इस भरे पूरे परिवार में कोई भयानक घटना हो कर रहेगी।

हो सकता है, और मेरी खुद की दुआ है  कि  ऐसा न हो, वो सुधर जाए। फिर भी अपने सुबह के सपने व मेरे पक्के अंदाजे से आप सब को एडवांस में अवगत कराने की ड्यूटी समझ यह सब अपने ब्लाग में आज की डेट 11 मार्च सुबह 6 बजे 2018 को यह सब लिख पा रहा हूँ।

और आप सब से जिसने भी मेरे होते या मेरे बाद यह सब पढ़ा होगा , मेरे को या औरों को उस  भयानक घटना से बचने के उपाय का अपना सुझाव रखें। धन्यवाद।
